Rehoused Items

This was the last portion of the internship. It really helped to clean out the map cases.  There were items that were stored incorrectly. These could be framed or oversized objects that were not flat. They require storage in boxes with individual labels for each item. To do this we took them out of the cases, measured and tended to any of their conservation needs, and placed them in the correct sized boxes. They were given foam blockers, if needed, to keep them from sliding when handled. They were then labeled and the location was changed by either me or the archival librarian. The boxes were then placed on the new to remote shelves to await pickup. The items that were too large to be sent to remote were placed in new non-acidic posters and relabeled for the map cases. Below are some photos of interesting items we found stored in the map case.

To deal with the rest of the items still in the cases, they were put in new clean folders and labels were created.  A good portion of these items were not in the catalog or processed into finding aids. To make sure we knew where they were located, we made a google doc and listed the items with their new locations. This way the archival librarian can quickly export their locations into the finding aid or the catalog when they are made.

These are photos of my favorite item I found in the cases. It is a calendar made purely to remember anarchy events. In the December section, as you can see in the second picture, there are pictures of ducks on one Friday and most Saturdays. This puzzled me as there is no explination and so I did some research. Sadly the author, Torvald Faegre, recently passed away so, this will remain a mystery.
